Jim's Journey.

Jim's Journey encapsulates rural life between the 1920s and 1950s in the Welsh Marches Countryside, based on the round of a butcher's boy who walked, used his bicycle and basket to deliver to every house in a hilly parish. Also portrayed are sixty plus of Jim's contemporaries or their descendents. Their stories of school days during the Second World War refer to evacuees, some affluent, others poor and dirty; the Land Army, which transformed the lives of former city dwellers; living conditions of large families in very small cottages without mod-cons and the farming year at the time of the binder and threshing box, all blend together to create a wonderful snapshot of social history. There are over 500 coloured and black and white photographs.

Quote:- "This book is so typical of my life as a young lad - in a cottage across 3 fields - Dad a mason on a country estate; no mod-cons, brick baking oven, water from a spring etc." (Pembrokeshire).
